February Player of the Month is Nic Bishar.
This comes as no surprise to those affiliated with the UMRFC. Nic’s inspiring work ethic and attitude has made him a leader on and off the field in just a year’s time. You may recall seeing his name in the West Virginia match report for perhaps one of the most memorable tries by a prop in team history. It should also be mentioned that Nic is currently holding two officer positions: treasurer and equipment manager. Nic’s off season is concentrated on the rehabilitation of his shoulder as he makes a recovery from a torn labrum surgery. He is expected to be back in full force late May/early June.

What have you liked about Michigan rugby the most so far?
The thing I have enjoyed the most about playing Michigan Rugby (besides going out on the pitch and running the ball down someone’s throat) is the feeling of camaraderie and support this team has to offer.
What legacy do you want to leave with the UMRFC?
I hope to leave Michigan rugby with a plan in place to help manage our funds in a way that will help bring the club to new heights in the years to come.
In 5 years, what do you see yourself doing?
In five years, I hope to be finishing medical school and, of course, showing up to old boys to let the young ones have it!
Should we know about any notable family or friends?
Besides me, probably not.
What typical family role do you feel you have with the club?
I’m really trying to work that crazy uncle angle. I’m fun to hang out with, but when it comes down to brass tacks, I got your back.
Biggest fear?
Spaghetti O’s, Little League Football, Skiing, and GorTex.
Favorite movie?
It’s a tie between Lawrence of Arabia, and The Patriot.
Any game day superstitions?
Every car ride to games I’ll play dancing queen by Abba at least once
Favorite superhero and why?
My favorite superhero is the Green Lantern. I really like how he himself has no superpowers. It is his will and courage that allows him to shape the strength that has been given to him. It shows humanity that what makes us great isn’t what we are, but what we think and believe we are capable of.
Best advice you’ve ever received?
“Do or do not, there is no try”
Anything else you want us to know or you want to say?
All I have to say is that rugby has been the single greatest experience of my life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
