As is tradition, Michigan Rugby will be traveling during spring break to play rugby away from home. France is the 2012 destination and the team departs today. A week of great rugby is to be expected as always, but this year, there is more history in the matches. The first of two matches will be February 28th against Troyes Tech, team of foreign exchange student and former UMRFC flanker, Ben Cans.
The second game will mark the rematch of the UMRFC and Paris-Sorbonne. Paris-Sorbonne visited Ann Arbor during the 97-98 season and U of M is set to return the favor. The game will be March 1st at the Stade Georges Carpentier.
In addition to the games, Michigan Rugby is still finalizing a service work day. While it may seem odd to some that the club will be spending part of their vacation working, community service has long been a part of the team’s values. In previous years, the team has held rugby clinics, cleaned city parks, volunteered with the Red Cross, and helped with the Thailand tsunami clean up.
The team will also be visiting the classic Parisian tourist spots so be sure to look for updates from the trip via Twitter, Facebook, and here on the website.
