UMRFC continued its commitment to excellence in volunteering by working Face-Off Blood Battle on February 14th at the University of Michigan. Several players donated blood to contribute as well as working the registration for the Blood Battle. After getting the service award last year, UMRFC wanted to continue its tradition of helping out in the community.
UMRFC also did work while on their tour in Trinidad and Tobago. The team split into 2 groups and each helped out in different ways. Half the team volunteered for the Red Cross. They helped by cleaning, painting, and moving furniture. The other group taught middle school and high school kids in Trinidad and Tobago about the game of rugby. It was an enjoyable experience for everyone involved and the team members had a great opportunity to do service outside their own community and reach out to the global community.
Looking towards the future, UMRFC is looking to participate again in the Michigan From the Heart program where athletes visit Mott’s Children’s Hospital on Thursday nights. This will be an excellent way for players to get involved in the community and help out those who are need. All of this service is a continuation of our on-going commitment to service as a club, as players and as people.
