Jeremy Reid has started to emerge as a force for UMRFC in his sophomore year. He has stepped into the role of utility forward by being quick enough to play flanker and strong enough to play in the front row. Jeremy brings great commitment to everything he does for the maize and blue, he sets the tone in the weight room, steps into any side to become an instant leader, and is committed to playing defense like a wolverine.

Why rugby?
I played football for 8 years and loved contact so rugby was a natural fit for me. I also wanted to be a part of a team and to have something to work at and better myself for.
What have you liked about Michigan rugby the most so far?
The sense of family that the Michigan rugby team has. Everyone was really supportive and helped me learn the game quickly and effectively. Each player works hard to better themselves for the team’s sake.
Most memorable moment on the pitch?
My first A-side minutes in the match against Wheeling Jesuit. I had played a few matches before but these did not match the intensity and quickness of the game at this level. Any nervousness I had went away immediately and a sense of excitement and determination came over me for the rest of the match and the day.
What’s your favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
Any drill that involves tackling inside a smaller grid. I love the contact and having the grid gives the defensive players an advantage in the drill. My least favorite would probably be anything that has Stu Fit in it. As great as it is to be fit its hard to enjoy anything with sprints.
What other sports have you played?
I played baseball, basketball and football all the way through 8th grade but focused on football for my high school years.
In 5 years, what do you see yourself doing?
Hopefully finishing up Law School with a job lined up and living in a major city like Philadelphia or New York.
What’s some embarassing childhood memory you can tell us?
One day when I was around 7 years old I was at the park with my parents and grandparents. I was running around the park and suddenly ran straight into a pole, knocking my head against it. Everyone started to freak out but I just got up and kept running around like nothing had happened. I guess that explains my love for contact.
Favorite place in Ann Arbor?
The sports complex, specifically the Big House.
Biggest fear?
I have a fear of extreme heights.
Favorite food/meal?
An authentic Philly cheesesteak with a side of fries.
Any game day superstitions?
I have this odd tackling progression set up I’ve been doing minutes before games since I started playing football.
Favorite superhero and why?
Definitely Superman, you can’t get better than one of the original superheroes.
Best advice you’ve ever received?
“Don’t think, React. Trust your instincts.” My football coach gave me this advice in 6th grade and I’ve used it for every sport since.
