Andre Cargill was a great addition to UMRFC when he transferred from Davenport. Andre brings rare talent that combines both physical gifts and a beautiful mind for the game of rugby. His ‘can do’ positive attitude makes him a successful player and student in his major of Biology. Look for Andre to keep making an impact for UMRFC both on the 7s and 15s side of the game.

Why Rugby?
I started playing rugby my freshman year of high school. I immediately fell in love with the sport and the camaraderie that comes with it.

What have you liked about Michigan rugby the most so far?
The Team, The Team, The Team. My teammates are what makes Michigan rugby what it is today, and we inspire each other to push ourselves to the limit. This is what I believe has led to our success on the pitch.

Most memorable moment on the pitch?
My most memorable moment would definitely be playing on national television at the CRC, and beating OSU for the nation to see.

What’s your favorite rugby drill in practice? Least Favorite?
My favorite drills are any drills that have to do with contact situations. My least favorite drills are our conditioning drills.

What other sports have you played?
I have played tennis, soccer, track, wrestling, and football.

In 5 years, what do you see yourself doing?
Hopefully I will have gotten into a med school where I hope to continue my studies.

What’s some embarrassing childhood memories you can share with us?
My life is one embarrassing story after another. One of my many stories was when I was 2nd grade at recess playing tackle football with some of my friends. It was a tie game and the other team was about to score when I got an interception and started to run with the ball, but one of the opposing players tackled me. On this day though I had to wear a baggy pair of uniform pants because I had ripped my other uniform pants the day before, so as my friend was tackling me he started to slide off and took my pants with him to reveal my big bear in the big blue house underpants with the bears riding on a balloons. After that no one even cared about the football game, but rather they cared about what kind of underwear I was wearing.

Favorite place in Ann Arbor?
Pretty much any restaurant, because I am trying to live the prop life.

Biggest Fear?
My biggest fear is failure. Basically any type of failure.

Favorite food/meal?
Cordon bleu.

Any game day superstitions?
I like to put my socks on before I put on my shoes.

Favorite superhero and why?
Batman. Because he’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.

Best advice you’ve ever received?
There is a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present. Master Oogway once told me this.
