The University of Michigan Rugby Football Club is excited to announce that we have reached, and surpassed, our goal with the ‘Share the Game’ initiative of 50 donated tickets to send Washington D.C. Youth players to the CRC. The tickets will allow the kids to attend both days and have a meet and greet with the U of M players where they can talk about rugby and college.
UMRFC and Washington D.C. Youth Rugby would like to thank of all the donors who are help making this trip possible for the youth players. One anonymous donor, who believed strongly in UMRFC’s effort to connect with the community, donated the funds for the total of the 50 tickets. This allowed us to go beyond our goal and showed the true spirit of Michigan alum and supporters. Again, to all of the donors, thank you for making this possible!
Washington D.C. Youth Rugby, the only youth program located in the district, started in 2004 with seven U-15 players. They have now grown to over 100 kids comprising seven boys and girls teams. The program continues their mission of serving underprivileged children in the Washington D.C. inner city to promote physical fitness and valuable life skills through the game of rugby.
Michigan returns to the CRC for the second year in a row and looks to build off their quarter-final appearance from 2014. Away from the field, U of M Rugby continues their strong tradition of community outreach through this partnership. Past work includes team blood drives, holiday Adopt-a-Family sponsorship, and participating in U of M’s From the Heart program to visit patients at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Partnering with D.C. Youth Rugby allows the young players to attend the CRC in addition to receiving guidance on collegiate rugby and life at Michigan.
