Lee is a freshman who immediately became an integral part of the top 23 front row the moment he showed up to the first day of two-a-day practices in the summer. Lee is the strong but silent type, not saying much but when he does it is something worth listening to. He has been known to hang out at the top of the charts for the team tackle count, and even has his own theme song. “I had a friend named Lee, he cast a spell, a spell on meee” there is more, but you’ll have to watch the Notre Dame game film on our YouTube channel to get the rest. The future looks bright for this young player as his rugby career at the University of Michigan has a long stretch of road ahead, and his skills can only continue to improve.

Why rugby?
I was looking for a sport to play after finishing my final year of football during high school and decided to give rugby a try. Ever since my first day playing the sport I have fallen in love with its intensity and will continue to play long into the future.
What have you liked about Michigan rugby the most so far?
The pride associated with being a part of a program with such a long and successful history
Most memorable moment on the pitch?
Getting a concussion during the team scrimmage and not remembering what happened during the whole second quarter of that game. Apparently I kept asking people if I hit my head, and I have no memory of doing so.
What’s your favorite rugby drill in practice? Least Favorite?
My favorite times in practice are when we scrimmage as a team and put everything that we have been working on in practice together. My least favorite drills in practice are any that are solely offensive focused without a defensive component.
What other sports have you played?
I spent most of my childhood playing hockey and baseball, and then I transitioned to playing lacrosse and football during high school.
In 5 years, what do you see yourself doing?
Probably still going to school here either as a graduate student or still finishing up my undergraduate degree.
What’s some embarrassing childhood memories you can share with us?
This is not a memory because it happened when I was a baby, but I had to wear a helmet for a few years because my head was not shaped correctly.
Favorite place in Ann Arbor?
I would say that my favorite place in Ann Arbor is Yost Ice Arena. When I was growing up my family had season tickets to Michigan hockey games. I would go to nearly every game and I have so many great memories associated with them.
Biggest Fear?
Letting down people who I care about
Favorite food/meal?
A baked sweet potato with butter and brown sugar
Any game day superstitions?
I don’t really have any pre game superstitions but I tend to listen to music and run through game situations in my head prior to the match.
Favorite superhero and why?
Iron Man because the existence of him feels enough within the realm of reality where I can connect him to real life more easily. Not to mention that the powers of his suit are also very cool.
Best advice you’ve ever received?
When I was in third grade I was trying out for a travel hockey team and I was feeling really nervous waiting in the locker room before the tryout was about to begin. It must have been clear because the coach, who I had played for before, came over to talk to me and try and calm me down. I do not remember exactly what he said but I know that his advice was along the lines of just put everything you know you have out there and everything else will fall into place. I have taken that mentality to every test or sporting event and realize that I need to give everything I have when it comes time to perform in order to be successful.
