April’s Alumnus of the Month is Tobi “Nigerian Nightmare, Prince Tobi, Tobi-san, First Feed King: Feed Father”
Eboda. Although he graduated back in 2011, Tobi has maintained a supportive presence in Ann Arbor for the
team. He can be found numerous times throughout the year supporting the young boys from the sideline and is
always excited to talk with players as well. Read what he has to say about his time with Michigan Rugby below.
When did you play?
I played for the University of Michigan from Fall 2007 until Winter 2011, the entire breath of my undergraduate
career.
What position?
I mainly played wing, but could move to outside center or fullback as needed depending on the roster.
Any special honors? (i.e. captain, chair positions, Midwest finals etc.)
I was part of the team that traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2007-2008 for the D2 Nationals after
winning Midwest in Iowa against the Johnnies, held the positions of publicity chair and president.
Favorite memories or teammates?
Too many favorite memories to count, been on so many adventures with the core group of guys that one of my
favorite activities currently is when we are able to get together and piece together all the memories we have
forgotten about, trips we took, times we spent hanging out all night, and things we can’t believe we pulled off or
got away with. The times I spent with Charles Berklich, James “Sauce” Wilber, Eoghan “Egon” McGreevy,
Gerrit “Why are you so beautiful” Yntema, Naveen “Ween” Aravapalli, Ty Waters, Bongo “Steven Offringa”
Bonginton, Davy Hamilton, Matthew Crabtree, Daniel “The Dabbler” DiGregorio and Andrew
“Swayze” Swain were easily the best in my life.
What are you doing now?
Currently completing my Masters degree in MCDB at UofM
Any other interesting stories or info that you can provide?
Rugby changed my life, who I am on a fundamental level today is a direct result of playing rugby at the
University of Michigan during my undergraduate. Undergrad for many is the first opportunity for a person to
choose what type of person they want to be. It is a time of extensive growth and development for an individual,
and it is thanks to the many that came before and stood beside me, who picked me up when I was struggling,
guided me by walking the path in front of me, and continue to this day to be an influence on my life, that I am
where I am today. I’m not able to tell you where I would be if not for rugby but I can say this, I would have had
far less interesting time getting there.
Oh and The Feed, can’t forget about The Feed.
