Ann Arbor, MI –
Last week the men took a trip to Iowa City that resulted in a 35-19 win for the Wolverines. The game got off to a rough start as Michigan had a knock-on during the opening kickoff. The men seemed to be out of synch due to the long travel to Iowa. Iowa capitalized on Michigan’s mistake and lack of awareness by getting the first score of the game on the edge.
The wolverines responded in kind with a solid drive up the field and a beautiful kick by inside-centre Tohy Rakotovololona that put the wolverines inside 22m. In a simple yet effective fashion, the wolverines were able to run the ball through the hands which resulted in a try out wide by freshman winger, Tanner Visco. Two more tries were scored before the end of the half leaving the score 21-14 heading into the 40th minute. Rakotovololona was three for three on conversions in the first half.
Iowa came out strong in the early minutes of the second half and were able to dot one down in the try zone to narrow Michigan’s lead to 21-19. After about 20 minutes of back and forth, Michigan was finally able to score in the 65th minute from workhorse prop, Nick Azzopardi. From this point forward, the wolverines ran away with the game scoring two more tries. Rakotovololona was a perfect six for six on the day for conversions.
The Wolverines will be headed to Bloomington, Indiana this Saturday, October 8th, to face off against the hoosiers in their toughest matchup of the year yet. Good luck to the men in Indiana, do the crest proud!
