Congratulations to this month’s Alumni of the month, Cooper Smart!

When did you play?

2012-2016

What position did you play?

I played mostly wing, Full back if I was lucky and somebody had a twisted ankle, and sometimes scrumhalf but EXCLUSIVELY in 7s

What was your favorite memory as a member of the club?

Costa Rica Tour of 2015 was quite possibly one of the best times of my entire life, so many fond memories and top notch prankster shenanigans. Costa Rica was a time of many firsts for me including learning how to play Euchre, seeing my first soda tower, participating in my soda tower race, playing my first international match, seeing somebody drink a liquid that was decidedly not coconut milk out of a coconut, using the same coconut trick on somebody else, stealing coach’s clothes, and so much more.

Did you receive any special honors as part of the club

I was awarded the Coach’s award after my last fall season as a senior. I had suffered an injury that put me out of the running for a spot on the CRC squad at the very end of the spring season. I came back to every practice in the fall, played in the B-side games when I could start running again and was able to play the last few games on the A-side.

As the publicity chair, I was also commended by some parents for my colorful write ups and film commentary on games, especially for intersquad matches.

What are you doing now?

After spending a couple years in Chicago, I’ve just moved to San Francisco to start my career in the realm of commercial real estate.

Any other interesting stories?

On the same Costa Rica trip, I left my Jersey behind in the locker room on accident. Coach grabbed it and decided that the only way I could get it back would be to do 1,100 push ups. Our next match was in 3 or 4 days later and in that time I got to around 950 until coach gave it back to me in a frustrated rage because our “guide” who didn’t speak any English got lost trying to get us to the field.
