August Alumnus of the Month: John Hunt

UMRFC Alumnus of the Month John Hunt

Congratulations to August’s Alumnus of the month, John Hunt!

When did you play?

1975-1980

What position did you play?

Prop

What was your favorite memory as a member of the club?

The last game I played was an Olde Boys Weekend game and near the try line I was called to carry the ball on a “go Blue” play — big guy rush to the line. I got the ball and barreled in, only to be met by John Wooley – the hit was like a hammer hitting an anvil – I did a 360 degree turn in the air and feel short of the line. It was a sublime hit. No pain. No try. But a life-long memory.

Did you receive any special honors as part of the club

No honors, but my privileges were playing with club legends like Tom Raboine, Cleland Childs, Walt Holloway, Keith Stone, Bruce Kingsbury, Rory O’Connor, Jay Gore, Dave Weber, and so many more.

What are you doing now?

After spending 30 years with AT&T, I’m a Senior Public Safety Advisor with the federal government’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration, and a couple of years away from retirement…
