After a September with limited activity, Michigan Rugby returned to full-team practices earlier this month on October 5. The resumption of practice was a welcome milestone in returning to full play, but there’s a long way to go before things return to normal. Players are required to wear masks during practice, and the practices are non-contact in order to fulfill social distancing requirements.
The rugby team is back off the field for a second time in the midst of a stay-in-place order for University of Michigan undergraduates, but all signs point towards a quick return once the stay-in-place order expires (potentially as soon as November 4).
In the meantime, the club has managed to stay busy. Players are completing daily workouts on their own time, and Coach Matt Trenary is conducting nightly film sessions over Zoom. Despite the pandemic, over twenty recruits joined the team this fall. This season is a wash, but Michigan Rugby’s future holds promise.
