Why did you decide to play rugby?
I love contact sports and I met a player in the gym who told me to come to a practice, I was hooked from the start.
What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
The brotherhood and camaraderie of the team has been the greatest part of rugby so far. That and trucking people when the ball comes my way have been the best.
Describe your most memorable moment on the field
Going to my first game at Notre Dame and having no idea how to play rugby was a little nerve-racking. I was playing as a backup lock and thought I’d have at least a good chunk of time to observe the game and learn what I should be doing. Then Calvin got knocked out less than two minutes in and I played the remaining 78 minutes of the game having no idea what was and wasn’t allowed.
What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
My favorite rugby drills are the first phase drills we do on hitting days. My least favorite are Broncos and Wolverines (running), I’m a forward after all.
What other sports have you played?
Football, Basketball, Lacrosse, and Powerlifting
What do you see yourself doing in five years?
Hopefully working as a neuromonitorist (IONM tech.) in hospitals around the country.
What is an embarrassing childhood memory that you can share with us?
I used to think the saying was “take it for granite” until I was 12 or 13 years old.
What is your favorite place in Ann Arbor?
White Street
What is your biggest fear?
Cardio
What is your favorite food?
Korean BBQ
Do you have any game-day superstitions? Explain.
Yes, I don’t eat dairy before a game because I’m superstitious about IBM.
Who is your favorite superhero and why?
Toby Maguire’s Spider Man is my favorite superhero because a lot of his acting was unintentionally funny.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
“Measure twice, cut once”
Again, congratulations to our October Player of the Month, Kyle Spence!
