Down at the Union one chilly Saturday evening in December, the members of UMRFC hashed out the selection of a new host of officers. 2022 will see some fresh faces leading the club, and a large supporting cast of both players and non-players. Let’s meet them!
Administrative Department
President: Tommy Hendricks (Sophomore, Grand Rapids, MI) Tommy’s confidence and leadership ability earned him this role. He’ll oversee all club operations.
Vice President: Luke Boll (Senior, Bedford, NH) Last year, Luke led our publicity department. He will be missed, but he has proven himself a valuable member of the board through his passion and his attention to detail.
Officers at Large: Jamie Willcox (Freshman, Cape Town, South Africa) and Antony Jacob (Freshman, Novi, MI) Jamie and Antony, two freshmen, are stepping into these new, flexible roles. So far, they have performed ably, working on projects from securing merchandise space to coordinating publicity photos.
Finance Department
Chief Financial Officer: Braden Loughnane (Junior, Westwood, MA) Braden, last year’s Vice President, steps into another key position as CFO. An able and responsible administrator, Braden will report team finances and collect payments, and direct two first-time officers.
Accounting Officer: Tim Zamarro (Sophomore, Hudson, OH) Another new face joining the officer board is always great news. Tim will be Braden’s right-hand man and secure funds from the University among various financial tasks.
Merchandise Officer: Max Meston (Freshman, Grand Rapids, MI) Max will run the team store and deal with the design, acquisition, and distribution of team merchandise and apparel. Non-officer fulfillment specialists have been brought on this year to help Max keep the team (and our supporters) looking fresh.
Logistics Department
Chief Logistics Officer: Ali Azeem (Sophomore, Grand Rapids, MI) We are excited to bring back Ali in a chief position this year. He distinguished himself in the digital media officer position last year, and seeks to build on that progress.
Digital Media Officer: Ryan Grover (Freshman, Cromwell, CT) Ryan has been looking for opportunities to help the club all year, and his efforts were rewarded with the digital media position. His projects will include new player-tracking technology and improving game broadcasts.
Rugby Analytics Officer: Shea Loughnane (Freshman, Westwood, MA) The Rugby Analytics position was created last year to oversee the club expanding the use of data in games. Shea’s knowledge of the game combined with his computer science background make him a great fit.
Community Department
Chief Community Officer: Otto Janke (Freshman, McLean, VA) The younger Janke makes his officer debut as head of the community department. The department was created last year and oversees social events, service opportunities, and academic and career support for players.
Community Service Officer: Edward Spector (Sophomore, New York, NY). Ed also makes his officer debut and will continue Michigan Rugby’s long-standing commitment to serving the community. In this role, Ed will provide community service opportunities, such as the Special Olympics Polar Plunge and the Walk to End Alzheimers’, for the team to contribute to.
Publicity Department
Chief Publicity Officer: George Janke (Junior, McLean, VA) Our departing president heads up publicity. George’s new publicity schedule helps keep Rugby’s fastest-growing department running efficiently.
Social Media Officer: Kelly McCafferty (Sophomore, Battle Creek, MI) Kelly is the club’s first female officer. She will post on team accounts, analyze social media data, and develop recruiting strategies through unified branding efforts.
Graphic Design Officer: Michael Ackerman (Freshman, Houghton, MI) Michael has been handling our graphic design duties for a few months now. With this officer position come more chances for him to develop his skills and enhance the club’s image.
