Why did you decide to play rugby?
My dad played in college and told me it was fun. I joined, and had so much fun I never looked back to any other sport.
What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
They say Michigan as a school is one of the “cultiest” schools in the country. Michigan Rugby cranks that to 11. As soon as I joined I instantly made some of the closest friends I’ve ever had.
Describe your most memorable moment on the field.
Driving through Bowling Green’s forwards with Jack Dabagia in my first game as prop to score my first try.
What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
Scrumming. Nothing is more fun than scrumming to me. I enjoy lineouts too. I hate any of the standardized running drills we do like the bronco.
What other sports have you played?
I’ve played a lot, but my main sports have been rugby and wrestling.
What do you see yourself doing in five years?
Leading the aerospace industry into the next generation and still taking part in my local club rugby team.
What is an embarrassing childhood memory that you can share with us?
I once accidentally attended a funeral when I lived in Guatemala. This was sophomore year of high school and my Spanish was still a little shaky, so I didn’t always understand what was going on. When I was asked if I wanted to go somewhere (at least that’s all I heard), I said yes. Turns out it was a funeral.
What is your favorite place in Ann Arbor?
My house on White Street, or Mitchell Field. Nowhere else have I made nearly as many memories.
What is your biggest fear?
Alligators are pretty scary. And also the sun’s imminent super nova explosion in 5 billion years.
What is your favorite food?
Cheesecake.
Do you have any game-day superstitions? Explain.
I’ve Pavlov’d myself to get into the zone by listening to the Songs for the Deaf album by Queens of the Stone Age. Pregame ritual to listen to the entire album.
Who is your favorite superhero and why?
I like the Wolverine. I like the animosity he represents and sometimes you just gotta let loose. Especially on the field.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
“Be a dog” – Thomas Majure
Again, congratulations to our September Player of the Month, Tim Zamarro!
