SISU™ Mouthguard December Player of the Month: Jeremi Owusu

Jeremi Owusu is our December Player of the Month. Since joining the team, Owusu has become an important leader on and off the field. Congratulations, Jeremi!

Why did you decide to play rugby?
I wanted to find a way to stay fit in college. My mentor happened to be on the rugby team and told me about it. After watching a few clips online I found the sport to be very entertaining and decided to give it a try.

What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
I love the people and the community. Michigan Rugby has an amazing culture and is full of the most hard-working men on and off the field.

Describe your most memorable moment on the field.
Chase down tackle against Ohio State.

What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
3 v 2 – Favorite
Passing Drills – Least Favorite

What other sports have you played?
1 year of wrestling in high school

What do you see yourself doing in five years?
Probably working as an engineer at whichever company. I also see myself traveling the world and playing with local rugby teams along the way.

What is your favorite place in Ann Arbor?
The NCRB. The Sauna is undefeated.

What is your biggest fear?
Dogs. I wouldn’t say that’s my BIGGEST fear, but they’re up there. I got bit by one as a kid, and I used to get chased by them a lot growing up.

What is your favorite food?
Waakye (Wah- chey). It is a dish consisting of rice and beans from Ghana, West Africa.

Do you have any game-day superstitions? Explain.
Pickle juice or some type of high sodium fluid. Most people know I used to have the most insane in-game cramps during my first season, so now I carry a jar of pickles with me to every game. Also, pickles are amazing, so why not?

Who’s your favorite superhero? Why?
Hulk. I think our vibes match.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

If you ask, they might say yes. They might also say no, but if you don’t ask, it’s always a no. So ask.
There’s opportunity at every corner, you have have to be bold enough to seek it.
