Freshman Connor Gilfillan is our March Player of the Month. After joining the team before classes began last fall, Connor has leveraged his years of rugby experience to become a rising star. Congratulations Connor!

Why did you decide to play rugby?
I have played rugby since a very young age because some of my friends decided to join. So I already had a passion for the sport before college and I really wanted to keep pursuing the culture.
What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
I think overall it’s the brotherhood and camaraderie that got me hooked. If you see any other member of the team in public it is instant conversation and there isn’t a single person on the team I dislike.
Describe your most memorable moment on the field.
My first try was of course super amazing especially because I had the flu during that game, but I don’t think I will ever forget the Wisconsin game despite its pretty heavy toll on my body.
What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
Huge fan of many the kicking drills and set play set up as I get to showcase most of my skills. And of course my least favorite is the bronco; I mean, whose isn’t?
What other sports have you played?
In high school in addition to rugby I wrestled and played football.
What do you see yourself doing in five years?
Either building cars in my garage or being a farmer.
What is an embarrassing childhood memory that you can share with us?
I have repressed all childhood memories.
What is your favorite place in Ann Arbor?
Totoro.
What is your biggest fear?
Horses.
What is your favorite food?
Milkshakes.
Do you have any game-day superstitions? Explain.
We used to do a chant on my high school rugby team called the mussa; before every game I whisper it to myself.
Who is your favorite superhero and why?
Spider-Man because he is the coolest.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Fail fast, fail hard.
