Freshman Tommy Hamann is our April Player of the Month. Despite being new to rugby and fighting a broken hand, Tommy has established himself as a breakout star on the Second Side this sevens season. Congratulations Tommy!

Why did you decide to play rugby?
I was bored. I missed football and contact with the boys and burning people with my blazing speed. So naturally it was an easy decision.
What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
Scoring millions of trys for the maize and blue and hanging with all of the lovely gentlemen on the squad.
Describe your most memorable moment on the field.
Getting my first hat trick against Kentucky after telling coach I was disappointed I only had two tries.
What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
I really like trying to catch the tennis balls with my claw. It is a good challenge. Least favorite is obvious…Bronco

Football, Baseball, Hockey, Tennis, Cross Country
What do you see yourself doing in five years?
I can’t think that far ahead, I focus on living in the present moment right now. It’s all I truly possess.
What is an embarrassing childhood memory that you can share with us?
Accidently was kissed goodnight by my friend’s mom when I was asleep because she thought I was her son (or was it dream?)

Going to Hell

Do you have any game-day superstitions? Explain.
I whisper a Hail Mary right before kickoff asking that I don’t break any more bones.

Spider-Man because he is that guy.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Tempor fugit, momento mori (time flies, remember death)
