January Player of the Month: Kevin Cheng

Kevin Cheng has been selected as UMRFC’s first ever player of the month.

He is motivated to help the club’s vision off the field and has also been a great contributor on it. This past fall, Kevin scored 7 tries as a wing for the club’s second side and earned his first first-team appearance in Michigan’s 31-27 win over Pittsburgh at the Midwest Playoffs.

What have you liked about Michigan rugby the most so far?
The team spirit and camaraderie have been my favorite aspects of the team.

How do you like the college student life?
I like the refreshing feeling of freedom and the huge variety of activities on campus.

In five years, what do you see yourself doing?
In five years, I hope to have graduated with a degree from the Ross School of Business and working at a successful job.

Should we know about any notable family or friends?
My father played seven years as a flanker in high school and college in Taiwan.

What’s some embarrassing childhood memory you can tell us?
While playing hide and seek with my cousins, I hid in the bathtub in the basement of a very large house.  I inevitably fell asleep for an hour.  All of the parents scoured the house to find me when they realized I was missing.

Biggest fear?
The fear of inadequacy.  And centipedes/cockroaches.  I hate centipedes and cockroaches.

Favorite food?
I will eat anything.  But if I had to choose, I think my favorite food would have to be a large bowl of ramen.

Any game day superstitions?
Unfortunately, not yet!

Favorite superhero and why?
I don’t really have a favorite super hero.

Best advice you’ve ever received?
“Just run down the sideline and make people miss tackles.”

Anything else you want us to know or you want to say?
I can’t wait for the coming years playing Michigan Rugby.  I envision us soaring to amazing heights!
