Why did you decide to play rugby?
I first started playing rugby when I was studying abroad in France because I missed playing sports and I also thought it would be a good way to make new friends and learn the language better.
What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
So far the group of guys on the team have been very supportive and hard-working, and I can’t wait to go to battle with them when the time comes to play 15’s in the Fall.
Describe your most memorable moment on the pitch.
I think starting and finishing my first full game on A-side against University of Nevada – Reno would have to be the most memorable time on the pitch, since I was usually on A-side as a reserve player and it just seemed like a vote of confidence from my teammates and coaches to have me play the entire game.
What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
My most AND least favorite rugby drill would have to be Broncos (basically just 20-40-60m suicides, five times, and sometimes we’d throw in burpees just to make life even harder for ourselves). I like it because I think it’s a great way to improve our fitness, but also because throughout the drill we all push each other to run faster and do our best. It’s my least favorite because, for me at least, I really just want to call it a day afterwards.
What other sports have you played?
I wrestled throughout high school and played tennis my junior and senior year of high school.
What do you see yourself doing in five years?
In five years, I’ll have hopefully received my PhD by then and I’d hope to be an Assistant Professor.
What is an embarrassing childhood memory that you can share with us?
I used to claim that I liked dogs but would cry when they barked at me (I still jump sometimes when my own dog barks).
What is your favorite place in Ann Arbor?
My favorite place in Ann Arbor would have to be Oosterbaan or Mitchell Field, getting rowdy with the boys on the pitch.
What is your biggest fear?
My biggest fear is growing old and having regrets/being unhappy.
What is your favorite food?
I am a sucker for hamburgers and burritos.
Do you have any game-day superstitions? Explain.
I have to eat breakfast with my dog and get a high-five from him before I leave.
Who is you favorite superhero and why?
Growing up I was a big Green Lantern fan because I thought he was the coolest Justice League character.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Leave it all on the field.
Again Congratulation our March Player of the Month, Fernando Angulo Barba!
