Why did you decide to play rugby?
I started playing rugby when I was 14 after being encouraged to do it by my dad who played in college. I had epilepsy when I was younger and the doctors told me I would never play football or go scuba diving so I ended up playing rugby which has somewhat less head trauma.
What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
Michigan Rugby has been my community the four years I’ve been at the university. It has allowed me to travel the world, made me lifelong friends, and allowed me to dedicate myself to something bigger than me. The lessons I’ve learned from playing rugby here at the University of Michigan have taught me just as much as anything I have learned inside the classroom.
Describe your most memorable moment on the pitch.
What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
Favorite: Scrumming against the sled
Least favorite: Basic passing fundamentals
What other sports have you played?
I briefly did football and track in high school.
What do you see yourself doing in five years?
I don’t plan that far ahead
What is an embarrassing childhood memory that you can share with us?
Someone set off a homemade bomb at the park near my house so I ran over and smelled it and got sick and the bomb squad came to my house because my mom called them.
What is your favorite place in Ann Arbor?
Argo Cascades
What is your biggest fear?
Making the ghosts in my attic angry.
What is your favorite food?
Lamb Chops
Do you have any game-day superstitions? Explain.
Not really
Who is you favorite superhero and why?
What is the best advice you have ever received?
My high school math teacher convinced me to go to college by telling me that an education is the one thing no one can ever take away from you.
Again Congratulation our March Player of the Month, William Biel!
