Congratulations to Luke Boll, our Player of the Month!

Position: Forward

Height: 5’8″

Weight: 180 lbs

Year: Senior

Major: Aerospace Engineering

Hometown: Bedford, NH

Why did you decide to play rugby?
I did not play rugby during my freshman year of college. I had played lacrosse pretty competitively for most of my life so I really missed and needed that competition aspect in my life. One of my best friends played on the women’s team here and thought I had the right mindset for the sport and would really enjoy it. It took a while to convince my parents but definitely one of, if not the best, decisions I have ever made

What have you liked about Michigan Rugby so far?
I really love my teammates and the competitive drive to work hard and support each other to achieve our goals on and off the field. The friends I have made as a part of my time with Michigan rugby will be friends I know I can count on having for the rest of my life

Describe your most memorable moment on the field.
My most memorable moment on the field was in my first game against Minnesota. I had played goalie in lacrosse so never really got to get physical in sports since Pee Wee football. During the game, I was on the sideline and Nathan Feldman comes up to me and says “Luke you’ve made a lot of tackles out there, but no real kill shots”, so then I had to go get one. Minnesota runs a play off the scrum where their 12 switches with their 10. They didn’t really do much to disguise it so I was able to read it like a two page novel and get a good hard hit on their 12. It was in that moment I fell in love with rugby. The guy I hit was super nice and we talked after the game. Really shows a lot about the sport I think

What’s your most favorite rugby drill in practice? Least favorite?
Favorite- Anything with contact. Least favorite- Dark Places

What other sports have you played?
I played lacrosse in high school

What do you see yourself doing in five years?
Living on a ranch in Montana with cows, horses, and bison

What is an embarrassing childhood memory that you can share with us?
Not sure if this is a childhood memory but that is at least where it started… I still tie my shoes with two bunny loops. I am not really embarrassed by it because it’s the superior way to tie shoes and refuse to let the people who do it with one loop make me feel self conscious

What is your favorite place in Ann Arbor?
North Campus. Great place to do work and has some good vibes. Wouldn’t want to live there though

What is your biggest fear?
Snakes

What is your favorite food?
Steak

Do you have any game-day superstitions?
Get jacked up on caffeine and Advil. I also always have Coach Zach put KT tape on my shoulders

Who is your favorite superhero and why?
Wolverine. Gotta support my fellow short dudes

What is the best advice you have ever received?
Everything worth doing in life is worth overdoing. Moderation is for cowards

Again, congratulations to our July Player of the Month, Luke Boll!
