Thank you for offering to help out with our post-game meals! In rugby, it’s tradition that the home team provides food for all competitors. While we have money set aside to fund these meals, our involvement on the field makes setting them up difficult.
Details
- We need to feed all players on both teams. One game: 80 mouths. Two games: 110 mouths. Three games: 140 mouths.
- We’ve budgeted about $5.5 per mouth for each game. Sometimes, staying within the budget is tough. If you go over, we’ll still provide you a full reimbursement.
- How you source the food is up to you. The best option in order to stay under budget is to buy in bulk from a grocery store and put the meals together yourself. However, it’s also okay to cater from a cheap local restaurant.
- Common food options are sandwiches, mac and cheese, meat, chips, and fruit. It’s more important that the players get a lot of calories than that they get higher quality food.
- There are a few players who are vegetarians and a few players with shellfish allergies.
- We’ll have a tent and tables to place the food. Unless we say otherwise, we’ll eat all of the food at once immediately after the final game.
- Keep all of your receipts, and make sure they are itemized! Send them to the club afterwards.
Example Meal
For our game against Adrian College on August 27, the Jankes (parents of George and Otto) catered 100 6-inch Subway sandwiches, 100 bags of chips, and 100 apples. It cost a total of about $650. While they agreed to cover the money that they went over budget, this is not necessary. Food will cost what it costs.
